  • To Coordinators: Summer Hours-Need Adorers?

Posted on April 25th, 2009 LWinn 8 comments

    To all Head Coordinators;

Please share what you do to encourage adorers for the summer months. Here in Arizona we have many  “snow birds” who go away for the summer.

Thanks be to God others flock to substitute for these hours.

How do you manage the summer months in your Parish?

    Blessings,

    Loretta

    • Hello Loretta! We have a parish with over 3,500 registered families and more than 250 regular adorers to support our Perpetual Adoration program. We have encouraged our adorers from the beginning to find someone they can trade with when they are gone, which the majority of them do, even the early morning hours! Of course, their is always the emergencies and adorers who drop hard to fill hours (but that’s another issue!). We have also created a bank of subs that can fill in for us should the regular adorer be unable to make a trade. We also encourage our adorers to invite a friend or family member to fill in, with the intention of seeding future adorers. In the ideal situation, we have at least 2 adorers on every hour and they cover for each other (however, we do not have that luxury). It is beautiful to watch how the adorers support and cover each other in the situations of life. God bless all the past, present, and future adorers of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

      Yours in Christ,
      Susan Morrisette

      • Susan,

You are doing all the right things. You may want to consider doing an annual “boost” at your parish to bring more adorers to adoration.

Also, where is your parish located? We want to be sure that your parish is listed on our website. Also, the name and contact information for the Head Coordinator - is that you?

    • I’m not sure how many parishioners we have but our town has about 4500 people so it’s a small parish.

    • Loretta,
Thank You for the packet and I am sure that Katie’s presentation will go a long way in achieving our objective. As I told you I am going to load it on my laptop and then use it during the course of a presentation to various ministeries. We enjoy a strong program of 2.5 Adorers/hour. In an effort to compensate for the annual attrition rate, I have to use all means possible. This is always an ongoing objective. The number of Adorers that we enjoy would tend to lead one to do nothing. However, over time if you take that approach attrition will destroy a healthy program. The Objectives of my presentation are fourfold.
      1–Why Eucharistic Adoration?–
2–Where we are at in the Parish.
      3–Extend an Invitation.
4–Request their help by serving as a disciple and extending an invitation to others.
It is my hope that Katie’s presentation will help to achieve the first objective. Many Thanks and your new Forum Website is grand!!Good job Scott!!
Does it have a spell check feature??

      Blessings

      • Spell check? Hmm.. Some web-browsers have built-in spell check, such as Firefox and Safari. I will look into getting a spell check into these forums for those who do not have those browsers. Thanks for you input!

    • At my parish in the Ottawa Valley (Ontario Canada) we have people who go away during the winter but are back during the summer. Others that golf during the summer or spend weekends at the cottage. So it does balance somewhat. We only have adoration once a week and only for 10 hours so we also have enough alternates to fill in most gaps. Morning hours, for some reason, are our most difficult time.

      • In Canada it does seem that you would have people who are interested in visiting during the winter and those who are interested in visiting during the summer.

      • Thanks for your thoughts. I hope more will come aboard and add their comments.

More parishes have established Eucharistic Adoration then Perpetual.

How many parishioners are in your Parish/Church?

        Thanks,
        Loretta
